Biography
Major Joseph Hasper was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 6, 1963. He graduated from high school in 1981 and attended Carnegie-Mellon University from 1981-1985. He enlisted in the US Army in 1986 and served in a variety of positions and locations, including Ft. Rucker, Alabama; Yongsan, Korea; Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey; and Ft. Lewis, Washington. In 1995 he was selected for Officer Candidate School at Ft. Benning, Georgia, and graduated in 1996 as a Distinguished Military Graduate. After attending the Transportation Officer Basic Course at Ft. Eustis, Virginia, he was assigned to the 46th Transportation Company where he served as a Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer. His other assignments include: Executive Officer, E/3-13 Infantry Regiment; Operations Officer, 120th Adjutant General Battalion; Operations Officer, 24th Transportation Battalion; Company Commander, H/71st Transportation Battalion; Senior Observer and Operations Officer, 3-290th Regiment; Company Commander, Oklahoma City West Recruiting Company; and Operations Officer, Oklahoma City Recruiting Battalion.
Major Hasper retired from Active Duty in 2006 and subsequently worked as Recruiting Operations Officer and Assistant Professor of Military Science at Cameron University, in Lawton, Oklahoma. At Cameron University he was a member of the Faculty Senate and member of the School of Science and Technology Dean Search Committee. In 2008 he transferred to the University of Oklahoma, where he serves as Recruiting Operations Officer and Assistant Professor of Military Science. His schedule includes introductory classes on leadership and tactics.
Major Hasper's military education includes Transportation Officer Basic Course; Transportation Officer Advanced Course; Combined Arms Services Staff School; and Army Logistics Management College. He has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Carnegie-Mellon University and a Master of Education from American Intercontinental University. His awards and decorations include: the Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), the Army Commendation Medal (8 awards), the Army Achievement Medal (7 awards), the National Defense Service Medal (2 awards), the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (3 awards), Korean Defense Service Medal, the Overseas Service Ribbon (with numeral 2), the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral 2), the Army Service Ribbon, the Recruiter Badge, and the Mechanic Badge. He is a member of the Military Order of St. Christopher and in 2001 was named Officer of the Year for the Army Transportation Corps.
Major Hasper was married to the former Joni Koynock in May, 1987, and they have two children. They make their home in Yukon, Oklahoma.
