Biography

Master Sergeant Gregory L. Johnson is a native of Tallahassee, Florida. Upon graduating from Amos P. Godby High School in 1987 he entered the United States Army. He completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

MSG Johnson has served in a variety of leadership positions to include: Regimental Plans Sergeant, Brigade Senior Fire Control Sergeant, Senior Fire Direction Computer, Chief Computer, Observer Controller/Trainer, Distance Learning Instructor and Senior Instructor, Platoon Sergeant, and Battery First Sergeant. He is currently serving as the Senior Military Science Instructor for the University of Oklahoma (OU Sooner Battalion).

His military education includes Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC), Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course (BNCOC), Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course (ANCOC) and the First Sergeant Course (SQI: “M”). Other schools include: Tactical Communications System Operator/Mechanic (31V), Cannon Fire Direction Specialist (13E), Equal Opportunity Representative Course, Air Assault School (SQI: “2B”), Rappel Master Course, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program Unit Alcohol and Drug Coordinators Course, Military Leaders Substance Abuse Course, Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) Observer Controller Academy, Combat Lifesaver Course, Instructor Training Course (SQI: “8”), and the Battle Staff NCO Course (ASI: “2S”). He has one year of undergraduate studies with Fayetteville Technical Community College and currently attending classes at Central Texas College.

His stateside and overseas assignments include Fort Riley, Kansas, Fort Drum, New York, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Camp Shelby, Mississippi, Fort Sill, Oklahoma (2 tours), Phoenix, Arizona, Fort Lewis, Washington and one tour in the Federal Republic of Germany. He has served three combat tours, Operations Desert Shield/ Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

MSG Johnson’s awards and decorations include: the Bronze Star Medal (1st OLC), the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (7th OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (6th OLC), the Good Conduct Medal (7th award), the National Defense Service Medal (w/Service Stars), the South West Asia Service Medal (w/3 Campaign Stars), the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (w/numeral 3), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Kuwait Liberation Medal (SA), the Kuwait Government Liberation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Medals (Service and Expeditionary), and the Iraqi Campaign Medal. He has also earned the Air Assault Badge, Drivers Badge and is a member of the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and recipient of the Field Artillery Honorable and Ancient Order of Saint Barbara.

MSG Johnson resides in the Norman, Oklahoma community with his wife Carmen and their three daughters, London, Camryn, and Reagan.
