Biography
Brian Lusty was born November 12, 1972 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He began his career in the military when he enlisted in the Oklahoma Army National Guard in 1990 as a Private and served enlisted while attending college and was active in the ROTC program at OU/UCO as an SMP cadet, but forewent the program to complete Officer Candidate School in 1998 and was commissioned an Infantry Second Lieutenant. He attended the Basic Infantry Officer Course in February 1999 and was returned to the Oklahoma National Guard as a platoon leader with C CO 1/180th INF and later that year volunteered for a peacekeeping mission in Bosnia as a platoon leader with Alpha Company 1/279th INF attached to the 3rd Infantry Division. 2LT Lusty was promoted to 1LT in 2000 and served in Bosnia until 2001 and was selected by the 3rd ID to return to the 509th in January and train the next Stabilization Force as a Bosnian Subject Matter Expert. Following the deployment 1LT Lusty returned C CO 1/180th INF in 2001 to train another platoon for JRTC then was relocated back to the 1/279th INF in 2002 to serve as a Delta Company Executive Officer. 1LT Lusty was hired as the University of Oklahoma Recruiting Operations Officer in late 2002 and served in that capacity until he was mobilized again for deployment to Afghanistan in 2003 with C CO 1/179th INF. 1LT Lusty returned to OU Recruiting Operations upon his return from Afghanistan in 2004 and was also given command of a Delta Company 1/279th INF. 1LT Lusty was promoted to Captain in 2005, and commanded a Delta Mounted Company during the Relief efforts of hurricane Katrina in September of 2005. Captain Lusty currently serves as the Delta Company Commander 1/279th INF, but will be the 1/279th INF BN S-1 in 2007.
CPT Lusty’s Military education include: Infantry Officer Basic Course, Air Assault School, Urban Warfare Operations Course, NCO Professional Leadership Development Course, Sling Load Certification Course, and Cadet Command Recruiting Officer course. CPT Lusty’s civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Central Oklahoma and is working to finish his MA at the University of Oklahoma. His awards and decorations include: Army Service Ribbon, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Reserve Component Achievement Medal (3), Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 2 Oak leaf clusters, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, NATO Medal, Air Assault Badge, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Army Commendation Medal (3), and the Meritorious Service Medal. State of Oklahoma awards include: Oklahoma Commendation Medal, Oklahoma Good Conduct Medal (8), and the Oklahoma Long Service Ribbon (10YR).
CPT Lusty is married to Jennifer, a teacher in the Norman Public School System and they live in Norman with their 2 sons Cooper and Wyatt.
