Biography
MSG Rafael Tirado, a native of Santurce, Puerto Rico, entered active duty on 29 September 1987 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he completed MOS 13B One Station Unit Training.
Master Sergeant Tirado has served in numerous duty and leadership positions. He has served as an Cannoneer, Gunner, Howitzer Section Chief, Senior Small Group Instructor, Gunnery Sergeant, Howitzer Platoon Sergeant, Combat Training Center Observer Controller, Battalion Operations Sergeant, Drill Sergeant, and Firing Battery First Sergeant. MSG Tirado has served in Giessen and Hoenfels Germany, Fort Sill Ok, Fort Stewart Ga, and Hawaii.
His military education includes the Primary Noncommissioned Officer Course; Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course; Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course; Drill Sergeant Course; First Sergeant Course; Air Assault Course; Other courses include: Instructor Training Course; Small Group Leader Course; Infantry Operation Sergeant Course; The Army Maintenance Management System Course; The 25th ID Field Artillery Master Gunner Course. He also has an Associate of Science Degree at Pikes Peak Community College.
MSG Tirado’s awards and decorations include: The Defense Meritorious Service Medal, The Meritorious Service Medal (4th award), The Army Commendation Medal (4th award), The Army Achievement Medal (7th award ), Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, National Defense Service Medal (2nd award), Operation Iraqi Freedom Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (number 4), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), Presidential Unit Citation Award, Drill Sergeant Badge, Air Assault Badge, Drivers Badge (wheel and track) and is a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
MSG Tirado has also been inducted into the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy and Sergeant Morales Club.
MSG Tirado continues to enjoy the company of his beloved wife of 14 years, Aida Angelica Tirado, and their three children, Giovanni (13), Alexander (10), and Angelo (4).
