Sooner Battalion Cadets Excel at Summer Training
16 July

While most ROTC cadet training is conducted during the normal academic year, a number of training options are available to cadets during the summer. Basic Course cadets may attend Army training schools such as Airborne School, Air Assault School, and Mountain Warfare School, which will grant them skill identifiers that apply for the duration of their military service, while all Advanced Course cadets attend Warrior Forge, which is a five-week training event held at Fort Lewis, Washington that tests leadership and Soldier skills.

The following Basic Course cadets have attended additional training:

Cadet Cameron Gilmore, MS II, Airborne School
Cadet Steven Royse, MS II, Airborne School
Cadet James Simpson, MS II, Mountain Warfare School (also #1 in his class)
Cadet Kenneth Pitts, MS II, Airborne School
Cadet Samuel England, MS I, Airborne School
Cadet James Burke, MS II, Air Assault School
Cadet Caeson Daniell, MS I, Airborne School
Cadet Benjamin O'Bright, MS II, Air Assault School
Cadet Paul Whaley, MS III, CTLT (Cadet Troop Leadership Training, i.e. an internship) at Fort Bragg, NC

Of additional note, Cadet James Simpson was one of sixteen cadets nationwide selected for the Cadet Culture Studies Open-Source Research Program (CCSORP), which is an intensive 28-day internship taking place both at Fort Leavenworth and in Egypt where cadets conduct unclassified national studies under the purview of the Foreign Military Studies Office (FMSO). We are very proud that Cadet Simpson has been selected for this unique opportunity.

Although not all of our cadets have yet completed Warrior Forge, we would like to recognize some of our cadets who have already demonstrated outstanding performance:

Cadet Jeffrey Martz, MS III - perfect land navigation score
Cadet Jason Pannell, MS III - overall rating of "excellent," 297 APFT score, and "recondo" qualified
Cadet James Truesdell, MS III - 272 APFT score
Cadet Paul Whaley, MS III - perfect land navigation score
Second Lieutenant Jamie Wilcox, former MS III - 293 APFT score, end-of-camp commissionee
Cadet Trevor Wolfe, MS III - overall rating of "excellent," 285 APFT score

The Leader Training Course (LTC), held every summer at Fort Knox, is like a "mini" Warrior Forge that trains prospective cadets for lateral entry into the program as MS III cadets. It takes the place of the Basic Course and is usually intended for civilians with no prior military service. We would like to highlight the following accomplishments:

Dustin Kincannon, future MS III - perfect written land navigation score
Tony Morakot, future MS III - overall rating of "excellent," 283 APFT score

We are sure that there will be many more achievements to report once the summer is over. Please check this website regularly for updates.
