The spring 2006 field training exercise, held on private land in southern Oklahoma during late March of that year, was the final preparatory event of the MS III (junior) cadet class before their attendance at Warrior Forge 2006. Warrior Forge, held at Fort Lewis, Washington during the summer between a cadet's junior and senior year, is a training event that serves as the final exam for an ROTC cadet, assessing his or her leadership potential through numerous field tasks and problems, including tactical problems.
Here, the MS III class, as well as select underclassmen, spent several days in the field continuously performing training exercises under simulated battle conditions, wearing full combat kit and using paintball guns to simulate hits. The exercises not only trained cadets in individual battle tasks and skills, but they also trained cadet leaders in military principles by teaching them how to successfully plan and execute combat missions from start to finish.
