As part of the final stage of their professional military education, senior class cadets tour a Civil War battlefield, studying the tactics and military principles employed in a particular engagement. These lessons are then applied to the modern military, allowing cadets months away from commissioning to better understand the historical development of their profession. In March of 2007, the senior class made a trip to Bentonville, Arkansas to study the 1862 Battle of Pea Ridge. Fought on March 7th and 8th of that year, the battle resulted in a Union victory that cemented Federal control of Missouri.
