After 26 years of exceptional service, Master Sergeant Joseph A. Henry, the Senior Military Instructor (SMI) at OU ROTC for three years, retired to Virginia, his home, where he will teach high school JROTC cadets the lessons learned from his time in the Army. Enlisting in the field artillery while still a teenager, Master Sergeant Henry distinguished himself in numerous positions, serving as a Drill Sergeant as well as the Battery First Sergeant of an artillery unit deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom, amongst other assignments. During his career, Master Sergeant Henry received both the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star Medal for the outstanding performance of his duties. A capable Non-Commissioned Officer and faithful Soldier, the contributions of Master Sergeant Joseph A. Henry to the Sooner Battalion and the training of its cadet corps will be deeply missed.
