Poeciliids are a large group of teleost fish that live in a number of freshwater and brackish habitats. Like most other poeciliids, the ones here are internally-fertilizing and bear live young. Internal fertilization is accomplished using the male's modified anal fin, the gonopodium (the tube-like fin in the pictures of males below).
All photos on this page (and a few in other pages) were taken by Luis
using a Canon SX30 IS, and were edited using Adobe photoshop to remove
color cast, reduce noise, crop/resize, etc. Closeups were taken using
a DCR-250 super macro conversion lens. Photos are released under the
