- To foster comprehensive and coordinated energy policies for the Western Hemisphere that are commensurate with national economic objectives and with common global concerns.
- To promote long-range planning and development of joint strategies for addressing energy supply issues and energy-related environmental issues;
- To train and exchange professionals in relevant technical, legal, economic, and policy disciplines in order to develop the skills and capacity required to address 21st century development and related environmental issues;
- To coordinate and conduct interdisciplinary research on energy resources and related environmental issues; and
- To form a supporting network of relevant academic, industry, and government organizations of the Americas; developing a network for information and expertise related to energy and environmental issues and a process for responding to request for assistance and disseminating information to governments, industry, environmental groups, and other appropriate organizations of the Americas.
