Goal of the Institute

1) To promote scholarly research that leads to a greater understanding of the environment and the interrelationship between the human activities of energy exploration, recovery and exploitation and the impact of these activities on the environment. To encourage and promote education of the highest quality in environmental science and technology.

2) To enhance the intellectual climate in order to encourage interdisciplinary synergism and a more global perspective on environmental issues.

3) To develop and transfer information and new technologies designed to help protect and improve the environment to those who activities impact it.



Strategy

1) Identify existing and emerging energy issues that impact the environment and represent potential educational and research opportunities.

2) Identify existing and potential research capabilities at the University of Oklahoma; create new strengths, and enhance those already in place, which are unique to OU and address the issues identified in item #1.

3) Take advantage of mechanisms to encourage interdisciplinary research, and its funding, at OU.

4) Create mechanisms to attract graduate scholars and visiting scientists who have potential interest in the mission of the Institute.

5) Create mechanisms to identify environmental areas where new technology is required and promote the creation and utilization of such technology.

6) Develop mechanisms to promote interaction among governments, industry and the academic community in addressing environmental problems.
