American students are better able to understand the functions of the European Union when they are provided opportunities as actors in a series of mock meetings of the European Council and the Council of Ministers. Each April the EU Center at the University of Oklahoma hosts a simulation of a European Summit meeting. Universities from across the Southwest send delegations representing each of the EU member countries. The Model EU provides a learning laboratory for students to discover how the insitutions of the EU operate and what issues are important to the member states. Students also develop life-long personal skills of negotiation, compromise and advocacy.
