Sometimes students need to know their major GPA (when applying to grad school or jobs etc.). The major GPA is the one for classes that are considered major requirements on the degree sheet. Major support requirements are excluded from this calculation.
Degree Navigator does not give students the correct GPA because only major classes on the degree sheets are recognized in that program, and therefore other classes that are considered “substitutions” will not be part of the GPA online. This program is not user friendly to students in interdisciplinary programs like IAS. I have found a pretty helpful GPA tool that students can use if they ever need to figure out their GPA in the major.
It so happens that there is room for exactly 10 courses, which is exactly what our major requirements consist of (refer to the degree sheet that each of you receive a copy of during the advising appointments). Here is the link:
