School of International and Area Studies

The School of International and Area Studies is pleased to announce an exciting change for IAS majors!

The School of International and Area Studies is now a part of International Programs within the College of Academic Affairs. We are no longer a unit within the College of Arts and Sciences. This will be an easy transition for you, and we welcome any questions or concerns you may have.

Replacing the College of Arts and Sciences at the Dean’s level is the International Programs Office in Whitehand Hall (http://www.ou.edu/international/home.html). This office will serve college-level functions with Dr. Zach Messitte as Vice Provost and Dr. Suzette Grillot as Associate Director. Tracy Holloway is your Academic Counselor and will be available to you for degree checks and academic functions that were previously completed through the College of Arts and Sciences in Ellison Hall.

The SIAS Office is still located in Hester Hall with Dr. Robert Cox as Director of the School. Malin Eichman will continue to be your Departmental Advisor (http://www.ou.edu/sias, 405-325-4547). Watch for upcoming announcements regarding these exciting changes, including a welcome back-to-school function. If you have any questions, please contact Tracy Holloway at 405-325-1429 or tracyholloway@ou.edu

**Please note—if you have a double major declared, or are considering declaring a double major, please contact Tracy at tracyholloway@ou.edu for more information on if and how you may be affected by this change. Minors will not be affected.

The following is an email sent by Malin Eichman to IAS Students regarding the new International Security Studies major.

Dear IAS students,

SIAS is excited to announce the addition of a new IAS major in International Security Studies (major code 0316F).

*****

International Security Studies is designed for the student looking for a career in the fields of foreign policy or national security. The program allows students to develop proficiency in any language recognized to be a critical security language, as well as the culture where that language is spoken. Specialized classes help students to understand international organizations and the global issues that affect security around the world. This degree prepares students for careers with US federal and state agencies, international organizations and companies in the private sector that operate in critical regions of the world.

If you wish to declare this as your major, please contact Tracy Holloway, Academic Counselor, International Programs Center Student Services, Whitehand Hall room 314. If you need to contact her before walking over there to make sure she is in her office, please either email her at tracyholloway@ou.edu or call her office at 325-1429.

Please schedule an appointment with me if you would like to find out how your previous course work may be applied to this new major. You can email me or call me for an appointment.

Thanks!
