School of International and Area Studies

Course selections for IAS majors

The BA degree in International and Area Studies is interdisciplinary in nature and allows students to enroll in a wide range of courses in many different departments. Since there is not enough room on the degree sheets to list all courses that are applicable to the major, students can access separate lists with additional major courses/options. The lists on this page include the courses that are already listed on the degree sheets (with a few exceptions, since some of the courses on the degree sheets are no longer current courses) but also several other courses that pertain to the different areas of study. The IAS advisor has approved these courses as appropriate IAS courses to be used towards a BA in International and Area Studies. Check with your advisor to find out what category on the degree sheet the courses will fall under.

*Pay close attention to the prerequisites for the courses that you are interested in enrolling in. It is the student's responsibility to contact the professor and ask about the prerequisites if a course is of interest to the student. Sometimes professors give special permissions to students even if they have not met the prerequisites for enrollment. It is always worth looking into.
