Overview
European Studies immerses students in European history and culture. The course of study includes literature, art, and geography, as well as political and economic structure. The departments and schools contributing to the success of this program are Anthropology, Architecture, Art, Drama, Economics, English, Geography, History, History of Science, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Modern Languages, Literature and Linguistics.
This concentration offers the broadest spectrum of material in the International Studies program and allows students to integrate their interests into a single specialization. The scope of the program includes western, central and Mediterranean Europe since approximately 1500.
European Studies graduates will be capable of functioning in at least one European country in which a language other than English is spoken, and they will be able to read materials in the language of that country. Students will therefore choose a language and begin their concentrated studies as early as their freshman year.
