Advising for Graduate Students:

Advising is a little different for graduate students. Undergraduate students are required to meet with an advisor, and make sure that the advising stop is removed before enrolling. Graduate students can enroll without being advised, however, it is always a good idea for you to meet with Dr. Smith and discuss your plans. Remember that you can start enrolling as soon as registration begins by visiting the enrollment website at enroll.ou.edu. If you are new to the program, you will be able to learn more about the enrollment procedures on this website.

Enrollment Procedures:

Those of you who are new to the program will most likely experience some confusion when enrolling in courses. Nothing is easy! Sometimes when trying to enroll in a Political Science course for instance, it will tell you that your major does not meet pre-requisite requirement. Even though our students are required to take several of the courses that they can't get into (according to the enrollment system), there is a way to work around that. It may seem a little inconvenient for our students, since it requires a little bit of work on your part. However, even undergraduate students at OU often have to ask for permissions to get into specific courses.

  • If you are trying to enroll in a Political Science course and the system will not let you, contact Tracy-Lynne Lewis at (405) 325-6499 or email her at tracylynne@ou.edu with your full name, Sooner ID#, graduate program, and the class you want to take. She will help you with the permission.
  • If you do not have your new SOONER ID#  please email Jacque Braun at  jbraun@ou.edu.
  • For the courses offered in the Business College (MGT, MKT, ACCT, and FIN), please contact Gina Amundson in the College of Business if you are experiencing difficulty. You may email her at gamundson@ou.edu or call her at (405) 325-4118 with the specifics as listed above. You can also stop by her office in Adams Hall, room 105K. Each class is a little different, some she will be able to simply clear for you and others she may have to direct to the instructor, but either way you should start with her.
  • As far as other classes go, contact the professors directly via email (by clicking on the professors name on enroll.ou.edu) with the same information as for the other classes as seen above. If the class is not full, this should not be a problem.
  • FYI: Enrollment in 6 hours is considered half-time studies and 9 credit hours is considered full-time for graduate students.
