AKD is an international sociological honor society first established in 1920 “to investigate humanity for the purpose of service” (Anthropon Katamanthanein Diakonesein). OU’s AKD chapter is the Beta of Oklahoma chapter of AKD.
Applications and fees are due by October 31 for Fall semester memberships and by March 10 for Spring semester memberships.

In order to become a lifetime member of the association, the following criteria must be met:
Criteria for Membership:
Undergraduates:
Completion of at least 60 hours of college coursework
An overall cumulative GPA of 3.0
Completion of at least 12 hours in sociology coursework
A GPA of at least 3.0 for all sociology coursework
Graduates:
Completion of at least one semester of graduate coursework
A 3.0 GPA in graduate coursework and continued
matriculation in a program of study leading toward a
graduate degree in sociology
Associate Members of the Beta of Oklahoma Chapter of AKD
In further support of our purpose to promote excellence in scholarship in the study of sociology, an associate membership with non-voting status has been established to provided mentorship for students who are interested in Sociology but do not currently meet the requirements for membership in the United Chapters of AKD. Students who seek associate member status should show interest and intent of joining AKD when they become eligible.
The criteria for becoming an Associate Members of the Beta of Oklahoma Chapter of AKD:
Enrollment at the University of Oklahoma
Completion of between 3 and 110 hours of college coursework
An overall cumulative GPA of 2.9
Completion of at least 3 hours of coursework in sociology
A GPA of at least 2.9 for all sociology coursework
Associate membership requires payment of local chapter dues of $15.00
Applying for Membership of AKD
Applications and fees are due by October 31 for Fall semester memberships and by March 10 for Spring semester memberships.
In order to become a member of AKD, you need to do the following:
1) Obtain an application form
You can get these on-line through the OU Department of Sociology website, or you may pick one up in the wall box that is on the third floor of Kaufman near the elevators (by the tables on which you sign up for advising appointments)
2) Complete the application form and return it with your fees to Dr. Hackney (the faculty advisor of AKD). You can give the form and fees directly to Dr. Hackney (her office is in 326 Kaufman), or you may put it in an envelope and put it in her mail box in 331 Kaufman Hall.
3) Dr. Hackney will check your eligibility requirements, and if you meet the requirements, an email will be sent to you.
AKD Membership Fees
A $55 membership fee is required of all new initiates.
The national chapter has a $40 fee; local chapter dues (AKD Beta Chapter of Oklahoma) are $15. Local dues will pay for your honor cord and local chapter activities. Total dues are $55.00.
We will accept checks, cash, money orders, or cashier’s checks. Please make checks payable to AKD or Alpha Kappa Delta. Applications and fees are due by October 31 for fall memberships and March 10 for Spring memberships.
