2008 Graduate Information and Application Packet
Hello! Thanks for visiting.
You will love Norman and our department. We offer a strong generalist training in sociology or more specialized programs of study in criminology, demography, international/comparative, the family, and stratification. We offer many classes at both the Master’s and Ph.D. levels. We are a smaller department (40 graduate students, 13 research faculty members) with a good record of placing our graduate students in both academic and applied policy positions. Our faculty members actively publish on their own and with graduate students. If you join us, you will be mentored in how to do research and how to teach at the University level. You will find yourself within a vibrant cohort of graduate students that works hard in the classroom, attends and presents at the regional and national sociology and criminology meetings, and that has a good time. This last year, we were able to offer GTA stipends to nearly all of our accepted graduate students. These students receive an annual salary of $12,500 over 9 months, health insurance, and 7 hours of tuition for free per semester.
