  • Dr. Worthen recently received her doctorate in Sociology from The University of Texas at Austin in 2009 and joined the University of Oklahoma faculty in the fall of 2009 as an Assistant Professor of Sociology. She is a member of the American Society of Criminology Division of Women and Crime, and the American Sociological Association sections on Crime, Law, and Deviance, Sexualities, and Sex and Gender. Dr. Worthen is also an official Sooner Ally and an active member of the Women’s Outreach Center.
  • Dr. Worthen’s main theoretical interests focus on the etiology of adolescent deviant behavior with a critical examination of peer and romantic partner behavioral influences. Utilizing a feminist framework, her research incorporates the intersectionalities of gender, race/ethnicity, sexualities and class. She has published work examining gender and differential treatment in the juvenile justice system. Her current projects include examinations of race/ethnicity and body image dissatisfaction, romantic partner influences on adolescent delinquency, friendship network composition and adolescent deviant behavior, adolescent sexual identity formation, and adolescent peer influences on sexual behavior.
