  • Academic Interests and Research: Criminological theory testing (control theories especially), the family and crime, gender and crime
  • Courses Taught: Senior Capstone in Criminology, Sociology of Family, Crime and Delinquency.  Graduate seminars in Criminological Theory, The Family and Crime, and The Ecology of Crime.
  • Dr. Hope came to OU in 1996.  Her main areas of study have been tests of Control Theories of crime and delinquency—including applying the theories of Gottfredson and Hirschi and Sampson and Laub to topics such as gang membership/gang crime, adolescent pregnancy resolution and delinquency, adolescent drug/alcohol use, and the gender gap in crime.    Dr. Hope has published in social science journals such as Sociological Quarterly, Deviant Behavior, Violence and Victims, and Justice Quarterly

    Dr. Hope is married to an OU History professor and has two children, Benjamin and Lillian.
