LCDA Community Based Linkage Council Meeting

September 19, 2002

The meeting started at 3:15 pm

I. Welcome:

Cynthia thanked the participants for attending. She announced that Joe McDoulett, the Director of Immigration Assistance Program from the Catholic Charities Archdioses of Oklahoma City will be making a presentation about immigration law and access to assistance to battered immigrants. Everyone introduced themselves before the meeting started.

II. Immigration Law: Access to Assistance for Battered Immigration, presented by Joe McDoulett, Director, Immigration Assistance Program, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Oklahoma City (Click here to access the Power Point slides of the presentation and handout).

III. Final Announcements:

A. Cynthia updated the CBLC on focus group and key informant interviews qualitative data. The transcription of the interviews has begun to arrive. She mentioned that the findings will not be made public until they have been presented in conferences or published.

B. Hispanic/Latina women organizing in the community-Maria Miller, Proyecto Cambio Advocate said that clients see a need for support group for Hispanics regarding the issue of IPV/SV. A group of Hispanic/Latina women who are interested in this issue will be meeting following the CBLC meeting.

C. Amigos Unidos por la Paz-Leah Moses, Proyecto Cambio Community Advocate, said that the event “Friends United for Peace” will be held on Oct. 24 from 5:30 – 7:00pm. She said that during the next CBLC meeting scheduled for Oct. 17, those who have signed up to read a poem will be given an excerpt of the poem so they can practice at home before reading at the event.

D. Other announcements:

1. There will be a free concert to remember battered women on Oct. 11 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm at the Myriad Botanical Gardens. CBLC members are invited to attend.

2. According to Teresa Randon, the translation of Oklahoma Driver Manual into Spanish is complete. A CD-ROM copy will be provided to LCDA to provide free of charge copies of the manual to those who may need it.
