About Us

Program Administration
The Practicum Program is administered by the Coordinator of Field Practicum Programs on the Norman campus with assistance from the Practicum Coordinator at the Tulsa campus. Both are Clinical Assistant Professors. Coordinators work with sites, instructors, students, and liaisons to assure quality field education.

Linking the Program and the Placement Site
Faculty field liaisons are assigned to each student. Liaisons visit placement sites, serve as consultants to students and on-site practicum instructors, and award grades.  Each faculty field liaison works with from six to eight students.  Most liaisons are regular full-time faculty members of the OUSSW; others are practicing social workers who serve as adjunct faculty. Each adjunct faculty field liaison is required to have an MSW.

On-Site Practicum Instruction
Practicum instructors provide on-site practicum instruction, generally for students placed at the agency where they are employed. Practicum instructors are considered affiliated faculty and are eligible for limited faculty benefits. Instructors must have a BSW and/or an MSW degree. Each instructor serves as a mentor for one to three students during a semester. Instructors are not required to accept students. They receive no monetary compensation for their work with the OUSSW.
