Professional social workers interested in serving as a Practicum Instructor for students at the OUSSW must complete and submit a Practicum Instructor Questionnaire (
or 
) and provide a current professional vita. All completed documents should be mailed to the OUSSW Practicum Office at 1005 South Jenkins, Norman, OK 73019.
The submitted documents will be reviewed by the Practicum Coordinator and the individual social worker will be notified of approval or denial. Please note that ONLY persons with a degree from an accredited program in social work will be considered for appointment as a Practicum Instructor. Required qualifications for Practicum Instructors are listed below. For preferred qualifications and additional criteria, see the Practicum Manual on this website.
Required qualifications for Practicum Instructors:
- A degree in social work from an accredited program. Those providing practicum instruction in the graduate program must have an MSW. Those providing practicum instruction in the undergraduate program may have a BSW only with an MSW preferred.
- At least two years of supervised post-BSW experience in social work practice for practicum instructors with a BSW only
- At least six months and preferably two years post-MSW experience in social work practice for those providing instruction for MSW students
- At least six month experience in current social work position
Credentials of applicants for practicum instructor status are verified using the Oklahoma State Board of Licensed Social Workers data base and the OUSSW data base. Those applicants who do not carry an Oklahoma social work license and did not graduate from the OUSSW may be required to provide additional documentation in support of their candidacy.
Practicum Instructors may apply for official appointment as affiliated faculty at the OUSSW by completing and submitting a University of Oklahoma Personal Data Form ( or ). Completed Personal Data Forms should be mailed to the OUSSW Practicum Office and will be submitted to the Personnel Office for official appointment. Appointments as affiliated faculty expire after two years. For the purposes of the OUSSW Practicum Program, only persons holding MSW degrees may be appointed as affiliate faculty.
