OBJECTIVES
Graphic Tech-Design is a class designed to instruct the students in the drafting, drawing, and basic watercolor techniques that are necessary to be able to design in the theatre. The student will learn the basic techniques involved with drafting including: line weight, lettering, board technique, plan, section and elevation. Drafting standards as established by the USITT will be learned. Drawing and sketching techniques will be explored and a sketch book will be utilized. Basic watercolor techniques will be demonstrated and practiced as part of the course.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
  • You are expected complete all reading before it is explored in class. You are expected to be prepared for class. KNOW YOUR SYLLABUS!!
  • You are expected to have the necessary tools to work in class. NO EXCUSES.
You will be asked to leave, and it will count as an absence.
  • Your comments have impact on your classmates. You will always try to think before you speak. It's hard enough without unkind or mean "joke" comments.
  • You will arrive for class somewhat early. Once the door has closed, you are not allowed to enter out of deference and respect for those who have arrived on time. Please do not knock or ask for an exception. If you have a class or other specific conflict, please see me immediately. Questions?
  • You will be allowed four absences total (including the first day of class, excused or not). Two full weeks of class. Overly generous perhaps, but each additional absence will cause your grade to decrease by one full grade level. If you are absent, you are, of course, responsible for everything you miss (yes, you missed something important!). Perfect attendance = 50 points extra credit. (This bonus applies only if you are truly "in class" every time. Sleeping or zoning out will cause me to mark you absent.
  • Assignments will be due on the given date. Late work is not accepted.

BE AWARE OF IN - CLASS DEADLINES!!
If you experience a personal or medical emergence, you will see me with appropriate documentation in hand as soon as possible.
  • A significant amount of time is dedicated to "in class studio." You should expect a minimum of 6 hours out of class work each week (3 credit hrs. x 2 = 6).
CLASS SUPPLIES
Arrangements have been made to provide you with the basic tools to accomplish this class. Some of the materials will also be provided in the classroom. There will be additional tools and materials that you will have to provide.

CLASS EVALUATION

See separate Graphics Evaluation Points Sheet.

  • Any student in this course who has a disability that may prevent him or her from fully demonstrating his or her abilities should contact me personally as soon as possible so we can discuss accommodations necessary to ensure full participation and facilitate your educational opportunities.
