National Education for Women's Leadership ~ Oklahoma
Women's Leadership Program

Annoucements
The Women’s Leadership Program at the Carl Albert Center seeks to address the historic under-representation of women in politics, public service, and other leadership roles. Our mission is to educate, inspire and empower women to become political leaders. We accomplish this mission through a series of educational initiatives designed specifically for women in Oklahoma.

Women of the Year 2008
N.E.W. Leadership Alum from 2007, Laura Hidalgo, Brandie McAdams and Tara Tannehill, accept a donation from the Journal Record at the annual Woman of the Year event. The Journal Record has honored N.E.W. Leadership as a “program making a difference” for the past five years.

N.E.W. Leadership is a program designed especially for college women in Oklahoma. Each year, thirty undergraduate women are selected to participate in an intensive five-day event designed to educate, inspire and empower them to consider careers in politics, public life and community service. College women attending school in Oklahoma or Oklahoma residents attending school out of state are eligible to apply (includes December 2007 and May 2008 graduates).

The award-winning National Education for Women's Leadership program (N.E.W. Leadership) educates and encourages women to participate actively in politics and public service.

Originally designed to increase the leadership opportunities seized by undergraduate women, N.E.W. Leadership ~ Oklahoma will now also address the issues faced by women who are beyond college but have not yet taken the step into greater positions of leadership. The entire program connects participants to key policy makers, community leaders and activists. The goal is to provide them with the tools they need to begin shaping the public agenda. The program seeks to increase the number of women, regardless of party affiliation, in the leadership of government and community.
