Thirty-three undergraduate students from 14 different colleges and universities ranging in age from 17 to 50 made up the 2004 class. Their home towns included Altus, Anadarko, Broken Arrow, Cherokee, Del City, Edmond, Kellyville, Lawton, Locust Grove, Marietta, Moore, Norman, Oklahoma City, Okmulgee, Perry, Purcell, Shawnee, Tahlequah, Tulsa and Wagoner. There were also students from Baxter Springs, Kansas; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Ethiopia.

Saturday evening, the class moves to The Commons Restaurant for dinner and a campaign simulation exercise. After dinner, participants break into six teams to develop a campaign strategy for their candidate.

Many NEW Leadership presenters and guests attend the Capitol Reception Monday evening.  In addition to celebrating women in government, the participants are able to interact with speakers and other women leaders one-on-one.

On Tuesday morning, the class breaks into three groups for a public policy simulation exercise.  Each member is assigned a specific character to role play.

After the Public Policy Simulation Exercise, the class broke for lunch.  Some participants opted to listen to a nationwide interactive telephone conversation on women and business involving US Senator and presidential candidate John Kerry and members of  Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP).

On Tuesday afternoon, panelists Terry Neese, President of Women Impacting Public Policy or WIPP, and Nance Diamond, President of the Oklahoma Arts Institute, discussed the many options of public service. Neese and Diamond both ran for Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma in the past and now are highly successful in non-elective public service careers.
