Girdling the center of the satellite are two broad band antennas, the upper one receiving at 6390 megacycles, the lower used for transmitting at 4170 megacycles. June 1962. A.T. & T. photo.

1220. Huge horn antenna, weighing 380 tons, for tests of Telstar. The horn is used to carry out experiments in broad band communications by way of Telstar. The horn transmits signals up to and receives signals from the satellite, a "space radio tower." An engineer standing on structure in lower center is dwarfed by the 177 foot long antenna. Andover, Maine. June 1962. A.T. & T. photo.

1221. Horn antenna, originally built for NASA Echo I experiment, now modified to work with Telstar. It tracks Telstar and receives broad band signals from the satellite. Its transmission capabilities are not used with the satellite. Holmdel, New Jersey. June 1962. A.T. & T. photo.

1222. A Delta launch vehicle on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral. Telstar was boosted into orbit with a Delta. Cape Canaveral, Florida. June 1962. NASA photo.

1223. Artist's rendering of earth station and its functional uses with Telstar. The complexity of the station is indicated by the variety of electronic signals it will handle as well as the variety of transmitting and receiving equipment it uses. June, 1962. A.T. & T. photo. Copy 1 is a drawing. Copy 2 is a painting.
