2. The SSA Bulletin invites feature, news, and research article proposals for its forthcoming Fall 2015 issue. The abstract deadline is Sept 15, 2015 with full submissions due on October 30, 2015. Please see the News Page for more information.

3. The Syrian Studies Association awards prizes for the best book, article, and dissertation on Bilad al-Sham and modern Syria, with winners normally announced at the SSA Business Meeting. See the Awards Page for more information.

4. The SSA Board is currently soliciting nominations for three Board positions, to begin in January 2016: President, Member-at-Large, and Grad Student Representative. Nominations must be received via email by October 15, 2015. Please see the News Page for more information.

Who should join?

The SSA defines Syria as the area included in historic Bilad al-Sham until 1918 and Syria following that. We invite scholars who study the peoples and territories of what is today Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Palestine before 1918 and those who study Syria after that date to join the SSA.
