to order at 1:35 p.m. in the Scholars Room of the Oklahoma Memorial Union.

Sustainability Committee
RECYCLEMANIA, MECHELLE GIBSON,
ASSISTANT TO THE SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT AND PROVOST, AMANDA HEARN, MARKETING AND
PUBLICATIONS SPECIALIST FOR PHYSICAL PLANT
Mechelle: Recycle Mania. The
divisions are: 1) Competition and 2) Benchmarking (this year’s benchmarking)
200,000 pounds of recyclable materials. Recycle Mania is a national competition
created to educate about recycling. The dates are from January 18th
to March 28th, 2009, and the goal of the project is to educate and
to increase individual effort and ownership. The website for more information

Amanda Hearn, Marketing Specialist for the
Physical Plant also spoke about Recycle Mania. The recycling program at OU
began in 1990. The Physical Plant will be shredding all materials and will be
monitoring all recycling. The competition will be based on the recycling
materials per capita. You can e-mail recycling@ou.edu for containers.
CAMPUS SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
ANNOUNCEMENT, LINDA BERARDO, STAFF SENATE LIAISION
Linda Berardo talked about the president signing
the American Colleges and University President’s Climate Commitment. The
agreement will include making plans and reporting actions. Burr Milsap is
chairing the committee. The sustainability committee is an advising body
working to accomplish steps set forth by the
commitment. It will not interfere with other environmental organizations. There
will be plenty of subcommittees – (10). The Johnson Controls agreement
helps head toward this goal. The website for more information is: www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org.
UPDATE ON OZONE/STUDENT SYSTEM BY
NICK KEY, OU IT CREATIVE AMBASSADOR.
Nick Key discussed the
standardization and integration of the system, which will utilize student
information. It is the largest tech project in OU History. It will have a major
impact on OU Faculty, Staff and Students. The Bursar/Admission
Records/Financial Aid and IT will be leading. This project was created for
evolving student needs. Students will be able to access and update information.
The portal will be single sign on self-service.
The functionality for the students
will be good relative to enrollment, grades, bills, clubs, class schedule,
weather, and athletics. It can have different channels and some of the tabs
will include: home, my tab, events, media and a library. The communications
channels will allow you to target certain parts of the colleges and
departments. The calendar will allow groups to set up meetings and events as
well.
The “GO LIVE” Dates are March 2009
for Financial Aid and Web Mail. September 2009 will be the full portal launch
for students and faculty. Training will be in early April 2009.

UPDATE ON BIG EVENT, BARRY CONRAD
Big Event’s 10th
Anniversary will be held on March 28, 2009. There will be teams of 20 people.
Each team will work for 4 hours in assigned places. Applications will be out
Friday, January 30, 2009.
CHAIR’S
COMMUNICATIONS
Linda said she had not
met with Nick Hathaway. Nick was present but did not have anything that he
needed to discuss with the members.
ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES
On motion by Linda Smith, the minutes of the
December 17, 2008, Staff Senate meeting were accepted with changes. The
corrections were: 1)Update on retiree healthcare, the age 62; 2) OU regents not
state regents; 3) Hourly employee council Brandie not Bobby.
Hourly Employees
Council:
President David Houck said HEC met January 14, 2009. The committee talked about
medical plans and retirement. You will be able to log on and leave feedback
about the Hourglass publication feedback. The website is www.ou.edu/staff_senate/Hourglass.pdf.
Organizational Staff Council: President Sandi Emond;
said Organizational Staff Council met on January 8TH, 2009. They
toured the Lissa and Cy Wagner Hall it was a very nice facility. Everything is
fully equipped, and student friendly. Melissa Shelton was the tour guide, very
fast and informative.
Informational
Staff Association:
Michael ; ISA met January 14th, 2009. There was a regular business
meeting. Guest, Melissa Hosler, attended the meeting and had a good time.
Treasurer reported about the amount of money in the bank. Talked about the
December Staff Senate meeting with the ISA council members. Grettie bondy
reported about the Faculty Senate Committee. The committee is supporting the
Angel Food Ministry. The logo contest will be over at the end of the monthd
there are already some submissions. An art show committee was discussed as
well. Next meeting February 4, 2009.
Administrative Staff Council: President Robbie
Wahnee; The ASC committee met on January 21, 2009. Dean Paul Bell was the guest
speaker and he spoke on leadership and change.

Awards
Committee: Dan
Hough; The committee met on January 20, 2009. The awards committee is on track.
They are thinking of possibly having check in tables for the award ceremony
arranged from A to Z rather than by type of award.
HEC
Communications Committee: No report; The meeting scheduled for January 21,
2009 was cancelled.

Policies Committee:
The
committee met the following Wednesday.
