CHAIR’S COMMUNICATIONS

Thankfully, I don’t have much to report.  This month has flown by and we have witnessed a fantastic game last weekend at home.  For those who were not at the game or not working the game, please let me tell you that our campus was alive with a spirit I haven’t witnessed in a long time.  People were genuinely happy to be at the game and there was a great positive atmosphere before, during and after the game.  I had people buying me a coffee and trying to buy lunch.  The staff and fans were in a great giving and caring spirit.  With this in mind, during announcements, I would offer the four member groups an opportunity to speak about their holiday projects. Tonight I leave for Minnesota for the final round of interviews for the Police Chief job in Redwood Falls, Minnesota.  Thank you for your support and encouragement throughout this process.

REPORTS FROM MEMBER GROUPS

Administrative Staff Council:  President Lori Granec reported that met and after the usual business items were discussed, they had Lee Camargo-Quinn discuss Benefit enrollment for 2018. She discussed updates from the 2017 benefit offerings. They also discussed the annual picnic and possible Holiday Charity event. Let the group know they would be having Tracy Spears as a keynote speaker in November.

Hourly Employees Council:  President Ross Mehl reported that HR representatives Marcy Fleming, Lee Camargo-Quinn and Carrie Irwin discussed shared leave, types of leave available to hourly staff, and dispute/grievance processes.  Additionally, they are selling raffle tickets for their December Holiday Raffle and are always accepting gifts towards the event.

Informational Staff Association:  President Elaine Bradshaw reported that they held a brief business meeting, in which filling vacant Council positions and ISA’s Secret Santa project were discussed.  Cori Nowlin from OU HR and Sarah Vaughn, OU’s Cigna Service Coordinator, gave a presentation on benefits enrollment and answered questions from the group.

Organizational Staff Council:  President Marissa Pierson reported that Jeremy Oxford was elected Treasurer.  In regard to Operation Comfort and Joy, Shannon Overstreet showed her raffled quilt design and the e-mail for nominations will be sent this week.  They are also looking into Venmo as an option to receive debit and credit card donations.  To recruit more members to meetings, she will be sending nomination letters to the chairs and directors from across campus.

REPORTS FROM UNIVERSITY COUNCILS, COMMITTEES, AND BOARDS

Employee Benefits Committee:    Debbie Copp reported:

October

We continued our discussion about the makeup of the EBC as well as its structure relative to increased number of employees on the HSC campus (now within 300 employees of Norman campus) and the change last summer to look at benefits on a separate basis. We will resume the discussion in February. HR is working on Identity Protection for OU employees as suggested by the Faculty Welfare Committee. Watch for more info. Rogers State, currently covered by Health Choice, has asked to be added to Norman Campus benefit plan. Work continues to make that happen. The majority of people who elected the SVRI will be retiring in December and the majority of those will retire in the final week of the month before the break. Still looking at options to help areas that have been hit in certain job families, particularly those who handle budget items, travel claims, etc. The Fun Run was a big success with 1,800 runners. They are continuing with the Lunch and Learn program.

At this time, we have cancelled November and December meetings and will next meet again in January. If something comes up, we can always have a regular meeting.
