2011-2012 Academic Year Events

AISES Gives Back

AISES Gives Back (AGB) is an annual springtime community service project that was created by The University of Oklahoma's 2000 AISES Chapter. The main goal of AGB is to help an area site where children of our community are impacted every day, such as schools and daycare centers.

With the help of the employees, parents, and other volunteers, we are able to make the area a better learning environment as well as a better work environment.  Our chapter, sponsors, and volunteers always have fun at this event.  Food, T-shirts, and Good Company are provided.

AISES National Conference

The National Conference provides an opportunity for students and professionals seeking academic, professional, and career development. This convention is the highlight of the year for the AISES community. There are workshops geared toward issues that Native American professionals face in corporate America, banquets honoring the members who have excelled, one of the largest career fairs for engineering and science students, and academically oriented workshops and seminars.

The career fair at the AISES National Conference is one of the best in the nation. Students from The University of Oklahoma have attended the career fair and have received internships from Lockheed Martin, the Central Intelligence Agency, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Chevron Texaco, British Petroleum, the National Weather Service, and 3M.

Spring Regional Conference

Every spring, typically in March, one chapter from every AISES region hosts the region's conference. Regional conferences provide an opportunity for college chapters, area high schools, and professionals to receive updates on AISES programs, activities, and upcoming events, as well as provide an opportunity for chapters within the region to communicate, network, and share ideas. Each participating college chapter delivers an in-depth report of their chapter's completed activities and plans for upcoming events.

Local and national professionals within a variety of fields provide workshops, seminars, and discussion groups about a wide variety of topics. Generally, each Regional Conference host develops a theme or focus area for the Regional Conference every year (environmental, bridging native cultures with science, etc.).

The host of the following spring's regional conference is determined at the Regional Student Caucus, held at the annual National AISES Conference. Chapters interested in hosting the regional conference indicate their interest in hosting, and make a verbal presentation regarding their resources, planning, and ability to host the conference. Each chapter is allowed one vote; the majority of votes determines the location of the regional conference.  To be determined soon.
