Arabian Night 2003

Arab Student Association (ASA) along with OU Lebanese Association (OULA) organized the First 'Arabian Night' on campus. The main goal of the night is to introduce the rich arabic culture to the public. With the war on Iraq, and the growing anti-Arab feelings, ASA and OULA gathered in a meeting to decide taking an action regarding that. The two available suggestions where either 'Arabian Night' or 'Dinner from the Arab World.' After taking the votes, the results were in the favor of the 'Arabian Night.' It was also agreed on that the preceeds of that night will be sent to the Iraqi hospitals by well-known and official American agency or organization.

The Night included Oud (cane), Belly dancing, Dabkeh, Zajal, Turkish coffee and Argilah. More than 250 people attended that activity. They all enjoyed a realy Arabian night and showed their responses by joining us in dances and debkeh. The night started with informative introduction given by Dr. Steven Salaita ( click here ), and was covered in the media, TV stations and newspapers.

It was great opportunity for the American and International community residing in the city of Norman to see the Arab culture and gain better understanding to the Arab's way of life and civilization. See our flier . For the photos, please check the Photo Galary link.
