A Message from the President of the University of Oklahoma Black Student Association...

ddGreetings and Salutations,

On the campus of The University of Oklahoma, the Black Student Association has continued to be a strong foundation for the Black community for 43 years. With the focus of scholarship, retention and unity, we strive earnestly to reach our goal of excellence.  This year, our theme is “Back to the Basics.” It has been put into action by looking back into our history at the University of Oklahoma and finding out the purpose of each of our hosted events. With purpose, our events become not only social, but educational and in turn more effective.

Our goals for the year include preparing the freshman class to be leaders and role models within the community by getting them involved in events and programs such as (but not limited to):

Programs: Freshman Action Team and Big Brother/Big Sister

Events: Welcome Black Mixer, On One Accord and Show N Tell

Our goals also include becoming a more reliable source for African Americans to be able to receive pertinent information regarding their undergraduate years here at the university. Lastly but certainly not least, we plan on implementing the Big XII theme for 2007 “Elevation to Excellence: A blueprint for success” in all that we do as a community. We sincerely believe in creating the blueprint that will guide our prospective communities in the right direction.

On behalf of the Black Student Association here at The University of Oklahoma, we are extremely excited to be apart of the legacy that the Big XII Council on Black Student Government has created. In hopes that the schools in the Big XII continue to support each other in all endeavors, we would like to say thank you for the hard work put forth from every school and the council. We must recognize that although we may not be around to see it, our hard work must not go in vain. Always remember that the future is determined upon what we do in the present.

    Sincerely,

    Crystal Sowah
    President 2007-2008
