ST. ANSELM OF CANTERBURY ENEWS

February 11, 2004

Reason itself is fallible, and this fallibility must
find a place in our logic.

EPISCOPAL STUDENTS TO MEET TONIGHT. If you are an OU
student under 30, join your fellow Canterburians at
the home of Erin Rooney for dialogue, refreshments and
fun tonight at 8pm.

BINGO TODAY!!! . St. Anselm’s will call bingo for our
friends at WHISPERING PINES TODAY. We could really
use your help. So, come for the fun! Meet at St.
Anselm’s at 1:30 and carpool, or we’ll see you there
at 2pm. This is the principal outreach ministry of our
community.

COMMUNITY-WIDE MEETING TO ELECT DELEGATES REVIEW YEAR.
Our annual Community-wide meeting will be Sunday,
February 15, immediately after the 5pm Eucharist. The
agenda will be laid back and informative. Come and
give your input regarding this ministry and its
future. We will elect members to the Advisory Board
and Delegates to the 2004 Diocesan Convention. A
specially catered meal will also be served. Please
come!

LENT IS COMING. MAKE A SPIRITUAL COMMITMENT THIS YEAR
to experience the entire mystery and joy of Easter.
This is Michael. Easter (the feast of the
resurrection) is the principal feast of the entire
church year. Many people come to church on Easter.
But the great Easter event is so much more profound,
and frankly, it makes so much more sense if you have
made the commitment to experience the penitential
season of Lent first. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday
(Feb. 25). Like previous years, St. Anselm’s will
offer three Ash Wednesday liturgies: 8am, 12:30pm and
5:30 pm. Make the effort to come to one of these
liturgies and then attend church throughout Lent (it’s
only six Sundays). Take your place at his Last Supper.
Pray with Jesus in the garden. Experience his
abandonment by his friends. Come face to face with his
accusers and judge. Walk to the cross with him.
Experience his dying. The light of his fire will burn
again…but not yet. That is a feast we must prepare
ourselves for. Let’s do it together.

MEETING WITH ARCHITECT POSTPONED DUE TO WEATHER. A
meeting to review preliminary sketches with architect
and Episcopal priest, Phil Lawrence of Grove were
postponed due to weather last week. We will reschedule
this meeting and let the community know by way of the
Enews. Drawings on the proposed addition of a
multi-purpose room to St. Anselm’s have been
authorized after St.Anselm’s staff received
encouragement from diocesan officials last fall to
research enlarging its facilities due to increased
usage.

CHOIR RETREAT WAS A BLAST! Eleven gathered at St.
John’s Episcopal Church last Saturday for an all-day
choir retreat. Music for the upcoming season of Lent
was reviewed and rehearsed. Lunch was provided by St.
Anselm’s. The retreat concluded at 4pm with choral
Evensong. Thanks to Suzy Hayes and all the members of
the choir for making worship at St. Anselm’s even more
beautiful and enriching. Choir members participating
in the retreat included Marlon Breaux, Tim Scott, Mark
Sessing, Russell Franks, Patrick Maddox, Mike Vogt,
Helen Remy, Michael Athey, Kelly Athey, Tess Wright.

CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP SERIES: “STANDING UP TO THE
POWERS” Beginning next Monday, the CLS will watch and
discuss the film “Silkwood,” the story of Oklahoma
resident Karen Silkwood who was mysteriously killed in
an auto accident after charging Oklahoma energy giant
Kerr-McGee with knowingly exposing workers in its
Crescent plant to high levels of radiation. Join us
at 5:30 for a free dinner and at 6:15 for the
film/discussion. We’ll be done by 7:30.
