WHISPERING PINES.

Wednesday, March 23rd, is another Whispering Pines Day. We gather at St. Anselm's about 2:30 to go to Whispering Pines by 3:00. We NEED all of you who can possibly come to be with us. Most of the Whispering Pines residents never see the light of day outside the facility, and many never receive visitors. So our faces are a piece of the world they rarely experience. They love to see anyone, but they REALLY enjoy the faces of younger people.

The prizes we need most are: candy, both sugar and sugarless, and colorful t-shirts, maybe some that you have grown tired of but are still good. They love clothes.

See you Wednesday, Kay
EUCHARIST AND CANTERBURY COMPLINE

At 5:30PM Wednesday we'll have our scheduled contemplative Eucharist,
and at 9:30 PM Canterbury Compline. Clay is leading compline this week.
ESA MEETING.

The next ESA meeting is scheduled for THIS Thursday, March 24th at 9:30pm. Yes, that's Maundy Thursday, but we need to gather to discuss some upcoming events for the students. We will be finalizing our retreat plans and scheduling another trip to Eischen's and much more. Come and contribute!!

HOLY WEEK

MAUNDY THURSDAY

At 7 PM we'll gatehr to remember Jesus final supper with his disciples
as we celebrate the two things jesus asked of us that night--to break
bread together, and to bathe one another's feet. Both are powerful
actions, prompting us to examine our willingness to first love one another
and then serve one another.

GOOD FRIDAY

At 12:35 PM we will gather for the Good Friday liturgy. The eastern
Churches call this Great Friday, honoring the image of jesus' death as
God's willingness to enter into human life so completely as to endure
death, and in doing so, change it forever.

EASTER EVE--THE GREAT VIGIL

At 8 PM Saturday we will celebrate Easter more in the way the earliest
Christians did. This service has deep religious roots in humanity's
religious experience. It begins with the kindling of the first new fire
of Spring, from which the Paschal candle, symbol of the light of new
birth and new beginnings in Christ, is lit. This candle and a Thurifer
bearing a smoking pot of incesne to give visible shape to our praise and
prayers leads us into the church from where the new fire has been lit.
There we listen in near darkness to stories of our ancient past, and
finally brighten the lights to celebrate our future in God.

EASTER DAY

At 5:00 PM Sunday we will gather at our customary time for worship and
dinner, a special Easter dinner will be served.

REVIVAL

Some of you have attended, or have heard friends in other churches talk
about, revival--weeks of spiritual renewal. These services of Holy
Week are a "revival" for us--a way to breathe in a new experience of the
power of God's spirit, to reenact the constant experience of dying to
the old self and rising to the new that is the way we follow, and recall
that "our life and our death is with our neighbor," that we live that
others may also live. In other words, this is good stuff.

CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP SERIES

We'll resume Christian Leadership the Monday after Easter Day with a
light dinner at 6 PM and the gathering upstairs at 7 PM followed by
choir at 8. We'll be wrapping up on "the Heart of Christianity" and
making plans for April.

FROM THE ORGAN BENCH

Wow, this semesteris going by in a hurry! Hope everyone had a
great Spring Break.
A very special thanks to Caitlin Frazier for her offertory solo on
March 13--beautifully & movingly sung, as always! Palm Sunday our
choir really touched me with their offering of "Jesus So Lowly" by H.
Friedell, one of my favorite anthems. Thanks to each of you for sharing
your gifts of music.
It's great to have Russell back in the choir after his illness.
He brought baby Patrick (who is SO cute) to choir rehearsal last
night--we must have been great because Patrick slept the entire time--even
when we sang forte!!
There are just 7 weeks left for our choir until the semester
break. This Sat., March 26, we'll have a special rehearsal at 7:00 p.m.,
right before the Easter Vigil service. Then, the regular Sun. & Mon.
schedule resumes through May 8.
MUSIC TRIVIA QUESTION: Which 20th Century English composer was
inspired by British folk melodies when composing his gorgeous music?
Hint: Some of his hymns & arrangements are in our 1982 Hymnal.
See you Sunday.
Suzy :)

T-SHIRTS ARE HERE.

The t-shirts have arrived! Please be sure to come pick yours up
as soon as you can!! The cost is $9.00 and you can make checks
out to St. Anselm's of Canterbury.
