NEWS

BINGO THIS WEDNESDAY. St. Anselm’s will host bingo THIS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 21ST at 2pm at Whispering Pines. Join your friends at Canterbury around 1:30pm to carpool or meet at the nursing home at 1:45. This is the principal outreach ministry of our community and we could use your help. It’s fun and it brings joy to the residents of Whispering Pines and to volunteer participants as well.

BISHOP CONFIRMS NEWLY ELECTED BOARD MEMBERS. Hugh Long, Patrick Maddox, Robin Roth, Erin Rooney and Timothy Scott were all elected to the Advisory Board at the annual meeting in February. According to the bylaws of the Association, their election is subject to approval by the diocesan bishop. In a letter to Chaplain Michael Athey dated April 15, 2004, the Bishop confirmed the new members. “It is with great pleasure that I appoint (these) persons to serve on the Advisory Board…I am grateful (to all of you) for your time, interest and support of St. Anselm’s and your important contribution to the Episcopal Church’s campus ministry.”

ADVISORY BOARD TO MEET. The Advisory Board of St. Anselm’s will hold its spring semester meeting on Sunday, April 25, immediately following the regular Sunday Eucharist. Any member of the St. Anselm community is welcome to attend this meeting.

ESA SCHEDULES “ANNUAL” SPRING RETREAT. The Episcopal Student Association will host a Spring Retreat at St.Crispin's, April 23-25. It’s our hope that this will become an annual event. We will leave on Friday afternoon the 23rd and be back around noon on Sunday the 25th. Let me know by email if you’d like to attend this retreat. There’s some planning to do and space is limited, so let me know as soon as possible. Peace, Mark

DEAD WEEK LUNCHES SCHEDULED NEXT WEEK. St. Anselm’s staff will host dead week lunches from 11am-1pm every day next week. Take some time out of your study schedule to enjoy a healthy lunch and some light conversation with your friends at Canterbury. The lunches are free. Bring a friend and introduce them to our community.

HOLY WEEK / EASTER A SUCCESS THANKS TO MANY. The culmination of our Lenten journey ended in spectacular fashion with the numerous liturgies of Holy Week and the Great Vigil of Easter. Thirty eight people attended on Saturday evening and Madison Olivia Launer was baptized. Special thanks go to Suzy Hayes and the choir for their dedication, hard work and beautiful addition to our worship; to Kay Greenshields and the lay readers, and eucharistic ministers and acolytes; to David Bassity for his work getting the outside of the building looking “spring-like;” to Rachel Hess and Will Hanner for their extra efforts in making our Easter dinner a little special. For all who assisted in preparing the worship space for Easter and to Mark Sessing for his assistance with administrative matters during this very busy time. To all of you and to those not mentioned by name, please accept the gratitude of your chaplain and your bishop for making Episcopal Ministry at the University of Oklahoma an honor and a delight.

ST. ANSELM MEMBERS INTRODUCE MINISTRY TO HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. Seven members of St. Anselm’s traveled to St. Crispin’s Retreat Center to assist staff in de-winterizing the camp. The contacts with High School students were important because St. Anselm’s did not hold its annual Visitors’ Weekend this spring. Thanks to Kirsten Herndon, Patrick Maddox, Mark Sessing, Hugh Long, David Basstiy, Kate Carney and Angie Helt for spreading the word about ministry with higher education in the diocese of Oklahoma.

ST. ANSELM WORSHIPS YEAR-ROUND. DON’T BE A STRANGER THIS SUMMER. Even as classes are winding down, St. Anselm’s continues to plan for worship and renovation projects this summer. Weekly worship will continue during the summer at 5pm on Sunday and 5:30pm on Wednesdays. The chaplain will continue to be in the office Mondays through Thursdays. Stay connected during the summer. We’ll be here!

KITCHEN HELP NEEDED. Calling all cooks! Drop Will Hanner an email and volunteer to cook or clean up sometime during the spring semester. Will Hanner: hanner@ou.edu
