FIRST BINGO –
THIS WEDNESDAY!!! The principal
outreach of St. Anselm’s is our
ministry to the
Whispering Pines psychiatric nursing
facility on East
Robinson, Norman. This will be the
third year we have
participated in this ministry which
is a joint effort
between the community events staff
at Whispering Pines
and the St. Anselm’s service/ministry
team. Meet your
friends at St. Anselm’s around 1:45
and carpool to the
nursing home. Bingo begins at 2pm
and is concluded by
around 3pm. Canterbury collects
bingo prizes
throughout the year to be awarded
at the event which
is scheduled every other Wednesday
during the fall and
spring terms.
SUPPORT OUR WHISPERING
PINES MINISTRY – BRING A
T-SHIRT ON SUNDAY. Go to your closet
right now and
pick out a good t-shirt (that would
be one without the
gravy stains from last Thanksgiving).
Make sure it’s
clean. Go out the door with it and
drop it by St.
Anslem’s on your way to class or
bring it with you on
Sunday WHEN YOU COME TO CHURCH.
(Emphasis added for
Mark Sessing). Each week, we’ll
have a special
in-gathering so we can build up
our inventory of bingo
prizes. The residents at WP love
the things we bring.
You can still drop other prizes
by too – like soft
sugarfree candy, jewelry items (without
sharp edges,
pins or posts) socks, stuffed toys,
soda in plastic
bottles, etc. Thanks for your support.
Now go to the
closet.

CONFIRMATION:
AN ADULT AFFIRMATION OF THE VOWS
OF
BAPTISM. In preparation for receiving
the sacrament of
Confirmation, several members of
the community began
meeting on Sunday afternoons at
3pm for discussion and
instruction. Bishop Robert Moody
will preside at the
Sunday Eucharist on October 24th
and administer the
sacrament, the heart of which is
the baptismal
covenant. If you are interested
in becoming a “full
member” of the Episcopal Church,
or would simply enjoy
learning more about living a mature
Christian life,
join us for the next six weeks as
we study and explore
our faith together. Chaplain, Michael
Athey and
Deacon, Kay Greenshields will both
be participating in
this formative process.
CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP
SERIES STUDIES “HUMAN LABOR.”
The first Christian Leadership Series
met last night.
About fifteen attended. The video
presentation was
about a boy named Idris, who, as
a nine-year-old, lost
his job in a garment factory due
to international
trade agreements involving child
labor. After losing
his family’s sole source of income,
the film traces
Idris’ experience as he attempts
to support his
invalid father in various other
forms of work. The
dreams of his life are shaped and
re-shaped by his
hardships. The film is titled “Some
kind of
Childhood.” It is in the St. Anselm
video library and
available for your viewing. Next
week, we explore the
world of migrant labor in the United
States and the
lives affected by public policy
and the struggle for a
life of dignity. Join us. Mondays
at 6:15pm. (a free
community dinner is open to all
at 5:30pm).
LAYREADERS AND
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

Anselm’s. If you
are interested in reading the lessons
during the
worship service or would like to
administer the
chalice at the time of communion,

Greenshields by responding to this
email.
