CLAY AND KIRSTEN CONFIRMED – SIXTY-TWO PLEDGE SUPPORT.
Diocesan Bishop Robert Moody presided and preached at
last Sunday’s regular Eucharist liturgy. He also
confirmed two members of the St. Anselm community.
Sixty-two people attended the confirmation service and
“pledged to support Clay and Kirsten in their life in
Christ.” The congregation was the largest since the
bishop’s October, 2002 visitation when sixty-three
people attended. The existing worship configuration
comfortably accommodates around forty. Chaplain,
Michael Athey presented the bishop with a formal
proposal letter which outlines an anticipated
expansion of the St. Anselm’s building. The proposed
expansion involves the construction of an additional
“Great Room” which will accommodate up to one hundred
worshipers.

ST. ANSELM TO HONOR FAITHFUL DEPARTED All Saints
Sunday will be celebrated on November 7th. In keeping
with the ancient traditions of the church, we will
remember by name those children of God who have gone
before us - who together with us, comprise the
communion of saints. Submit the names of those you
would like the church to pray for by responding to
this email. The names of each will also appear in the
bulletin on the 7th. You have until Tuesday, November
2 to submit names.

ST. ANSELM’S ADVISORY BOARD TO CONVENE NOVEMBER 7.
The Advisory Board will meet immediately after the
Eucharist on Sunday, November 7. This is an open
meeting, so all members of the community are welcome
to attend. Items for discussion will include the
certification of Kate Emig and Owen Pollard in their
respective discernment tracks. The proposed addition
of a great room will also be discussed. A budget
review will be presented together with informal
reports from staff. Members of the Advisory Board
include: Hugh Long, Patrick Maddox, Robin Roth, Erin
Rooney, Tim Scott, Stephen Wagner and Quyen Arana.

EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED – EVEN IF IT IS DIFFERENT.
Get ready for a philosophical adventure with I Heart
Huckabees (Rated R). When Albert (Jason Swartzman),
visits a husband and wife team of existential
detectives (Lily Tomlin and Dustin Hoffman), he is not
prepared for the journey ahead of him. Hoffman and
Tomlin’s characters attempt to teach Albert that
everything is connected and nothing is a coincidence.
Albert is introduced to Tommy (Mark Wahlberg), who is
also looking and understanding of what everything
means. Their work is interrupted by Caterine Vauban
(Isabelle Huppert), who insists that there is no
meaning to life and one must learn to deal with the
hardships and cruelty of it all. Jude Law and Naomi
Watts also star as Brad and Dawn, a power couple at
Huckabees, which is a large chain corporation and
Albert’s most loathed enemy.
This comedy is unique in that it requires the audience
to focus on the philosophy of the film rather than the
plot of the film. The result is an exceptional film
that is truly one of a kind. I Heart Huckabees boasts
both intelligence and wit from the script as well as
the actors. It should not be missed!! If for no other
reason, see it because Mark Wahlberg looks eerily like
Michael Athey. (Reviewed by Kelsey Kemp)

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AT “FULL CIRCLE SENIOR ADULT DAY
CENTER” Helen Remy is looking for volunteers who
would like to lead a “spiritual time” with up to
twenty senior participants. Singing and prayer will
be involved: Fridays from 10am until 11am. The center
is located at the Community Services building at the
corner of East Main and 12th St. For more information

CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP SERIES STUDIES “BODY IMAGE and
MASCULINITY.” Next Monday we will conclude our series
on Body Image. Join us at 6pm for the discussion or at
5:30 for a free community dinner. We’re always done by
7:30pm. (ish) Plans for the next Series will be
announced in the Nov. 2 ENews.

EPISCOPAL NATIONAL GATHERING OF COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY
STUDENTS. Mary Hileman, the chaplain from OSU's
Canterbury, has sent Michael an information packet and
a registration form for those of us interested in
going to the National Gathering of Episcopal college
students. The retreat will include workshops, small
groups, plenary sessions, social and cultural events,
and affinity groups to make the time spent "together
full, challenging, and rewarding, encouraging us to
seek out renewal through careful listening, honest
reflection, courageous sharing, and joyful worship."
If you would like more information, please see either
Michael or Tess. The information packet and
registration form is posted on the bulletin board in
the dining room. If you would like to go, please make
a copy of the existing registration form (as we only
have one) and replace it on the bulletin board once
you are finished (so that others may have the
opportunity to see it as well).

DIOCESAN CONVENTION TO CONVENE NOVEMBER 12-13. Lay
delegates from St. Anselm’s (elected at the February
annual meeting) are Marlon Breaux and Mark Sessing.
Clergy delegates will include Michael and Kay. Others
attending as guest observers will be Suzy Hays, Tess
Wright and Owen Pollard. This convention promises to
be interesting. Pray for your delegation, and if you
have concerns or issues you’d like them to address to
the convention, make your own voice heard!

LAYREADERS AND EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
Liturgical ministry abounds at St. Anselm’s. If you
are interested in reading the lessons during the
worship service or would like to administer the
chalice at the time of communion, contact Deacon Kay
Greenshields by responding to this email.
