Professional Organizations
Joining a professional organization can perform an important role in your development in your chosen field, not only making for another section in your CV, but also providing access to a wealth of information which often includes a subscription to one of the organization's journals.
Most of the organizations listed below have special membership rates for students and many of the linked websites contain information which can be accessed without purchasing membership.

American Psychological Association (APA)The American Psychological Association is the most general of the professional organizations applicable to students in the Educational Psychology department. It comprises several divisions including: APA also has a graduate student organization: The American Psychological Association of Graduate Students (APAGS). Their website contains many useful psychology resources as well as a special area for students which includes an APA style helper, funding opportunities and a job search engine among others. |

American Educational Research Association (AERA)AERA is the biggest international professional organization for Educational Psychologists and includes the following among its many divisions: The AERA also has several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) as well as a Graduate Student Organization which is a good way to get involved in the organization and is good preparation for your future career. |

The European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI) EARLI is a smaller international organization with around 2000 members from 40 different countries. While EARLI itself has its own annual meetings, many of the SIGs also host their own meetings. The Motivation and Emotion SIG sponsors the International Conference on Motivation every two years with the 2008 conference being held in Finland. |
