Philanthropy
Vision...one of our most precious senses. Unexplainable to those without it;
irreplaceable to those who have it. Protecting the gift of sight is one of Delta
Gamma's highest priorities. Since 1936, Delta Gamma's philanthropic purpose has
been to stop blindness before it starts. For men and women for whom blindness is
a fact, the mission has been to impact the quality of their lives in a myriad of
positive ways. Delta Gammas give more than 96,000 Service for Sight volunteer
hours each year, one volunteer at a time, each leaving her mark on the world.
Alpha Iota is committed to not only supporting our community through hands-on
volunteer work, but also dedicated to hosting numerous fundraising events that
directly benefit Delta Gamma philanthropies. Fundraising events such as Dee Gee
Diner, a 50’s style Diner with coke floats and great burgers, as well as Anchor
Man, a fun beauty pageant that every fraternity participates in and Anchor
Splash©, a synchronized swimming competition, are held each year in order to
raise both money and awareness for the Blind and Visually Impaired. These events
allow Delta Gamma to bring awareness to the Norman community about the needs of
those who are blind or visually impaired, as well as raise financial support for
our much-loved philanthropies. This past year Alpha Iota raised almost $20,000
in philanthropy money through all of our volunteer work and fundraising events.
We take great pride in our impact on people’s lives and they, in turn, have
touched our lives in memorable ways.
