How Do You Rush?
To join a fraternity, you go through rush as a rushee. Rush is the formal membership recruitment program for fraternities. Traditionally, rush occurs during the first few weeks of fall and spring semesters. Most chapters promote year-round recruitment

To Register for Fraternity Rush
The online application form is now available. Please use the online application to register for IFC Rush.
The registration form may be completed and returned to the OU Greek Affairs Office or you may submit it via e-mail from the Online Application web page. Once completed and sent in, your name will be added to the master rush list. OU Fraternities will have access to this information and may contact you by phone and through the mail. You may be invited to fraternity barbecues throughout the summer and fraternity members may want to schedule visits with you in your home. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS FORM IS NOT REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE FALL RUSH PROGRAM. Once on campus this fall, you will have several opportunities to learn about Fall Fraternity Rush. A copy of your official high school/college transcript would be helpful.

Remember, it is strongly recommended that the registration form be completed and submitted to the Greek Affairs Office. This will permit chapters to contact you during the summer to share information about the OU Greek community and their chapter with you. If you decide to submit the form, we ask that you do so by August 10th, 2002 so that the fraternities have adequate time to contact you prior to residence hall check-in.
  1. Be Yourself. There is nothing more important than being yourself during rush. You'll end up with the right fraternity for you, and you'll be happy with your decision.
  2. Evaluate each fraternity carefully. It is important to make an individual decision about which fraternities you will focus on during rush. Go to Fraternity Forum so that you can have an opportunity to meet members from every fraternity on campus.
  3. Take your time. Joining a fraternity is an important decision. Be sure that the fraternity that has given you a bid is the one you will be happy with. You do not have to accept a bid right away; event though it is called rush, that is the one decision you will not want to rush into.
  4. Visit as many chapters as you can during rush week. Concentrate on those fraternities you are interested in.
  5. Beware. Look out for fraternities who belittle or make derogatory remarks about other fraternities.
  6. Dry rush. Alcohol is not allowed at any rush event or activity. National Fraternity, University, and IFC policies stipulate that all events and activities associated with fraternity recruitment must be alcohol free. Violation of this rule is a serious infraction and the guilty chapter is subject to severe disciplinary action.
  7. Ask questions. Some useful questions you might want to ask during rush are:

How much emphasis does your chapter place on scholarship?

What types of scholarship programs are offered by your chapter?

What kind of social activities do you have each year?

How involved is your chapter with IFC, student government, and other student organizations?

What kind of time commitment does joining your fraternity take?

How will your fraternity help prepare me for graduation and life after college?

How much will joining your fraternity cost?

What is your new member membership education program like? What is its purpose?

What types of community service does your fraternity take part in?

    What makes your fraternity unique?
  8. Register for rush during the summer. Register with the Interfraternity Council as soon as possible by sending in the form. This will permit OU fraternities to contact you during the summer. There is no cost to register for rush.
  9. Attend fraternity summer rush events. Begin to learn what OU Greek life can offer you.
  10. Attend Fraternity Forum on Thursday, August 19 in the Walker Tower Mall area. Fraternity Forum is a time when you can meet with members of OU fraternities all under one roof and ask them questions about Greek life and their chapters. During rush week, it may be difficult to visit all of the fraternities you are interested in. Fraternity Forum is a good opportunity to focus on several chapters you may be especially interested in. Fraternity Forum is optional but it is the best time to meet members of OU fraternities and ask questions.
  11. Attend the rush information meeting Learn about the IFC Rush schedule at this meeting. Your attendance is very important.
  12. Rush week activities. IFC distributes schedules for all fraternity rush events to assist you in planning your week. This information will be available at the Rush Information Meeting and at the Greek Affairs Office, Room 228 Oklahoma Memorial Union.
  13. The spring rush option. If you choose not to join a fraternity in the fall, perhaps you might be interested in the spring. Spring rush is generally the third week of spring classes. Those chapters participating sponsor events during that week in the evening. This is another excellent opportunity to think about joining an OU fraternity.
  14. Attend the Rush Concert on Friday, August 20 in the Walker Mall Area. This concert will feature popular bands and will be a great opportunity to meet with members from different fraternities.
  15. Have fun. Be positive, smile, and enjoy visiting the chapters of your choice.
