Scholarship
Scholarship has always been a top priority with our chapter. Our chapter has been ranked first in grades among sororities on OU's campus 22 times since 1972! Theta was ranked first in grades again last fall! Our new scholarship program requires all members to do weekly study hall hours, depending on their GPA.
We host two major philanthropic events each year. In the fall semester we host a 5K run and the spring semester brings our annual tennis tournament. This fall's fun run, "KATS Making Tracks for CASA," was held on Dad's Day weekend the morning of Halloween. This spring's tennis tournament will be held March 27th. All proceeds from entrance fees and t-shirt sales benefit the local CASA chapter (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Theta's national philanthropy.
For more information about entering our run or tennis tournament, or if your business is interested in sponsoring this event or making donations, please contact our chapter Service Chair.
Different groups within the chapter regularly perform community service projects. Monthly projects have included helping at a children's carnival in Oklahoma City, hosting a safe trick or treat for children near Lake Thunderbird State Park, and preparing Easter Baskets for patients at Children's Hospital in OKC.
CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates, is Theta's National Philanthropy. This special program aids in the removal of abandoned, abused, or neglected children from the frightening world of court systems and foster care. A CASA volunteer, called an advocate, is literally the child's voice in the court since they represent them to the judge as well as the entire system.
CASA's main goal is to get these needy children in stable, safe homes, and out of a system that doesn't always have their best interests in mind. Theta collegiate and alumnae chapters across the nation donate millions of dollars to this organization.
The Fraternity's philanthropic arm, the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation, supports the Fraternity's educational programs as well as CASA. The Foundation awards more than $200,000 each year in graduate and undergraduate scholarships for Theta members.
