Why Giving Matters
Today, when university students are faced with a bewildering array of possibilities, choosing to participate in Jewish life on campus must be made a compelling option. It is Hillel’s challenge to provide engaging, meaningful experiences – experiences that will frame their future. As the foundation of the campus Jewish community, Hillel at the University of Oklahoma is enjoying a renaissance through its activities, programs and services. Investors in Hillel at OU ensure that an inviting and nurturing Jewish community will continue to exist on the campus. Shareholders in the program see a return on their investment, as the Hillel Foundation touches the lives of young Jews from throughout the state and the nation - both today, and for generations to come.
Our Jewish community is a tapestry of many interwoven partnerships between our Hillel and area Federations, the University of Oklahoma, and Jewish community organizations with an interest in OU campus life. Each partnership enhances the campus community and assures a creative, joyous, and confident future. Yet the key partnership for OU Hillel’s success is with its investors: philanthropists desirous of shaping a community of pride; parents and grandparents seeking to transmit a Jewish life of meaning; visionaries searching for ways to create an exciting Jewish continuity; and alumni providing their alma mater with the necessary resources to shape the next generation of Jewish leadership. The commitment of these supporters fortifies the fabric of Jewish life by turning dreams into realities, transforming promise into product and equipping this generation of college students to become the leaders of the Jewish community tomorrow.
Through the essential work of the Hillel Foundation, members of our campus Jewish community have the opportunity to participate in Jewish learning and living of all kinds – with religious, cultural, social, educational and civic activity taking place everyday of the week. Hillel at OU is a warm and nurturing home for Jewish students, providing them with a welcoming space for the celebration of Jewish traditions, the exploration of their Jewish identities, the concretization of Jewish values and the opportunity to connect with other young Jews.
Your investment will facilitate the engagement and empowerment of Jews on the campus of OU today and will enable them to realize a Jewish future of hope and possibility. As an ever-greater number of students find their way through the doors of the Hillel Foundation, enhanced human and program resources, a reinvigorated facility, and sound fiscal stability will help build a Jewish renaissance and a Hillel of optimism and pride at the University of Oklahoma.
Giving Opportunities
There are many opportunities for you to support the essential work of the OU Hillel Foundation:
Endowment Campaign Contribution
In the fall of 2000, the Board of Directors of the Hillel Foundation at the University of Oklahoma embarked upon an Endowment Campaign designed to build the already existing endowment so that it will provide an income that, together with annual allocations from area Jewish Federations and individual givers, will support much of our yearly expenditures and allow us to continue to develop an expanded program of dynamism, heart and soul. Our current endowment stands at $358,000. Our long-term goal is to raise the funds necessary to increase our principal to $1.5 million. Gifts to the Endowment Campaign will assist us in reaching this long-term goal. General Fund Contribution
In each fiscal year, contributions to our annual fund comprise approximately 15% of our operating budget. Contributions to the General Fund assist us with all aspects of our day-to-day operations, including student programming and facility maintenance. Annual and one-time gifts to the General Fund are essential in making Hillel a success! One method of annual giving to our General Fund is through the purchase of a Sponsoring Membership in Hillel. Sponsoring Members receive invitations to programs and holiday celebrations, as well as regular newsletters and updates on the exciting happenings in our Foundation. Consider becoming a Sponsoring Member through an annual gift of $220/family or $90/individual or more. Director's Discretionary Fund Contribution
Established in the summer of 2000, the Director’s Discretionary Fund provides financial resources for the Executive Director of the Hillel Foundation to make discretionary purchases on behalf of the students and the institution. This fund is only as healthy as the contributions put into it, and is used to augment the programming of the Hillel Foundation with expenditures that would otherwise not be able to take place. Past purchases made with Director Discretionary Fund monies include: computer software, game equipment, furniture and Jewish ritual objects for Hillel and for students. “Shabbat Angel” Fund Contribution
Shabbat worship/dinners are one of the most popular and successful events at the Hillel Foundation at OU! Many students join us on a weekly basis to enjoy one another’s company, share in a delicious home-cooked kosher meal, and usher in a peaceful Shabbat together. Shabbat attendance is at a record high, with more and more students joining us each week. In order to keep our Shabbat costs down, and to provide students with a dinner that is VERY reasonable in cost, we invite supporters to become Shabbat Angels, sponsoring one or multiple Shabbat dinners throughout the academic year. A gift of $180 will allow us to prepare a delicious and welcoming Shabbat meal for several dozen students! Planned Giving
Planned giving is a beautiful means of insuring that your contribution to the Hillel Foundation will continue to grow and touch the lives of Jewish students at OU forever. If you’d like to discuss planned giving opportunities, please contact the Executive Director of the Hillel Foundation in order to arrange a meeting. How To Contact Us
For any of the above giving opportunities, or for additional conversations regarding ways that you wish to support the essential work of the Hillel Foundation at the University of Oklahoma, please feel free to contact us via telephone, email or mail.
