Model United Nations of the Southwest

Conference

The next MUNSW conference will be held on February 17 - 20, 2010

Model United Nations of the Southwest is a student organization committed to increasing awareness of the role the United Nations plays in today's international community. During our annual conference, we educate high school and college students using simulated international crises and the debate of resolutions to demonstrate the United Nations' effectiveness at addressing global issues.

Preparation for Conference

Students are expected to have a working knowledge of their assigned country's political, social, economic, and religious views before they arrive to participate as delegates at the first session on Wednesday. Once at conference, delegates should represent their country's views and opinions instead of their own.

Appropriate attire is either business or native dress. If any delegate shows up in jeans, they will be asked to leave and change into proper attire before rejoining the conference.

Country assignments will be sent out at the beginning of December. Delegates should study their country's domestic affairs and international regulations. Delegates are encouraged to write to their country's representative at the United Nations for more information. This information will assist students in writing well informed  position papers. In addition, delegates need to study the history and structure of the United Nations, the history and involvement of the United States in the UN, and parliamentary procedure.
