Model United Nations of the Southwest
Mission
Model United Nations of the Southwest (MUNSW) is a student organization committed to increasing public awareness of the role the United Nations plays in today’s international community. This is accomplished through a three-part strategy that includes the hosting of an annual United Nations simulation, attending other Model United Nations conferences throughout the country, and participating in university and community events with a UN-related or international focus. During our annual conference, we educate junior high and
high school students using simulated international crises and the debate of resolutions to demonstrate the United Nations’ role in addressing global issues. The conference lasts for four days and is attended by approximately 400 to 500 delegates each year. Conference attendees are split into their pre-selected country delegations and represent the foreign policy positions of their respective countries for the duration of the UN simulation. Approximately forty graduate and undergraduate members of MUNSW from The University of Oklahoma and several volunteers from the Norman community staff the conference
each year. In addition to our annual conference, MUNSW members attend other UN
simulations as well.
