Constitution
- Article I. Nomenclature
- This organization will hereto be known as the University of Oklahoma
Objectivist Club.
- Article II. Purpose
- The purpose of the club will be to assist the debate and discussion
of Objectivist principles and to introduce the philosophy of Objectivism
and its applications to those interested.
- Article III. Membership
- Membership in the club is open to all people interested in the
rational discussion of Objectivism. There will be two levels of
membership: active and passive.
- Passive members will not have to fill any requirements.
- Active members must attend at least one-half of scheduled meetings
within the preceding three months and be currently enrolled as a student
at the University of Oklahoma.
- Officers of the club reserve the right to expel a member after a
proper hearing has been held. The member must be notified at least one
week prior to the hearing. A ¾ majority vote of the officers will be
required for a member to be expelled. A member may not be expelled for
ideological reasons.
Article IV. Officers
- Section 1. Terms and Duties
- There will be four officers of this organization: president,
vice-president, treasurer and secretary.
- The presidents term shall last one year, beginning and ending the
first day of the Fall semester. The president will be ultimately
responsible for all club activities.
- The vice-presidents term shall last one year, beginning on the
first day of the Fall semester and ending on the Last day of the Spring
semester. The vice-presidents duties will include standing in for the
president when he/she is not able to form necessary duties.
- The treasurers term will begin on the first day of the Fall
semester and end on the Last day of the Spring semester. The
treasurers duties will include the maintenance and responsibility of
any financial accounts and/or transactions of the organization. During
the Summer break, the president shall assume responsibility of financial
matters.
- The secretarys term will begin the first day of the Fall semester
and end the last day of the Spring semester. The secretarys duties
will include the maintaining of minutes and roll.
Section 2. Impeachment
- Any officer may request an impeachment hearing of another. The
officer to be impeached must be notified at least one week prior to the
hearing. A 2/3 majority vote of the officers will be required for the
impeached officer to be expelled.
Article V. Advisor
- Professor Eric Connell will be the clubs faculty advisor until
amended otherwise. The faculty advisor will act as observer and
commentator. The advisor will be provided a copy of all meeting
minutes, rolls and other club actions.
- Article VI. Elections
- Officer elections will be held at the first scheduled meeting of
the organization in the month of April. Only members classified as
active may vote. Voting will be conducted by ballot. The votes will be
counted that evening in the presence of the current four officers. If a
current officer is not able to attend, then an active member will be
selected in place of that officer.
- Those wishing to run for an office must announce their intention at
a scheduled meeting at least two weeks before the election. A member
must be classified as active in order to run for an office.
- If an officer slot is open between elections, the president will
appoint an active member to fill the slot until the next election.
- Article VII. Meetings
- This organization will schedule open meetings on the second and
fourth Wednesday of every month. A closed meeting will be held on the
third Wednesday of each month. Closed meetings will only allow the
participation of the faculty advisor and officers. A schedule of all
meetings and activities for the next month will be available at the
first open meeting of every month.
- Article VIII. Amendments
- Changes or additions to the Constitution can be adopted by the
club. Any member of the club may submit a written suggestion to any of
the officers. The officers will vote on any modifications to the
Constitution within one month of receiving the suggestion. A 3/4
majority vote of the officers will be required to adopt the change or
addition.
