International Bazaar

October 29, 2011

The International Bazaar presented by the International Advisory Committee (IAC) took place at the South Oval. Different OU international student organizations had booths displaying their countries arts and crafts. It was a very diverse and vibrant atmosphere and an opportunity to shop and explore cultures around the world in a market-style setting.

SAB was present to share our Bangladeshi culture. On display were Sarees made of different materials (Jamdani, Tangail, Kataan, silk, cotton), pots, plates and home dishes made of clay, and home decorating material made of jute.

We sold clay ornaments, fotuas, patriotic music CDs, and Bangladesh t-shirts among other items brought from Bangladesh.

One of our biggest attractions was painting Henna on people’s hands. In addition to that, we painted Bangla calligraphy on people’s hands for free. This included signs of festivals such as Pohela Boishakh, Pohela Boshonto, and Ekushe February. People also got their names written in Bangla on their hands.
