AWARD OPPORTUNITIES
- If the SoM
Awards committee determines that there are no
qualified students for certain
- awards, the
award will not be given
- Award winners
will be immortalized on an SoM permanent plaque
- Award decisions
will be made by the SoM Awards Committee, unless
otherwise noted
- Decisions of
the committee are final
UNDERGRADUATE
AWARDS
Undergraduate
Academic Achievement Awards
- 1.$400 award
given to the meteorology senior with the best OU
cumulative GPA
- 2.$300 award
given to the meteorology junior with the best OU
cumulative GPA
- 3.$200 award
given to the meteorology sophomore with the best
OU cumulative GPA
NO
APPLICATION IS NECESSARY. THESE AWARDS WILL BE
GIVEN BASED UPON REVIEW OF STUDENT RECORDS
- Awards will be
given in the Spring semester, based on GPA
through the fall semester.
- Students must
be in the appropriate level of meteorology
courses (i.e., seniors in senior meteorology
courses, etc.)
- Based on
cumulative GPA from students' previous OU work
(this is NOT the retention GPA in which the
repeat and forgiveness policy has been applied)
- Student must
have been at OU for at least 1 year, AND/OR at
least half of the student's total credit hours
must be OU classes
- Selection made
by SoM Awards committee by review of GPA
- Except in
unusual circumstances (as determined by the SoM
Awards Committee), only 1 award will be given at
each class level. In case of a tie, the
committee will review students' Meteorology GPA
and overall academic record (including transfer
credits).
- A student is
eligible for an award throughout their tenure in
SoM (i.e., a student receiving an award as a
sophomore can still be considered for the awards
at the junior and senior levels)

1. Faculty
Recognition for Outstanding Performance as an
Undergraduate ($300 award)
STUDENTS MAY
PICK UP APPLICATION FORMS IN THE SoM OFFICE, SEC

- Application
deadline for Spring 1999 is March 12, 1999
- Awards will be
given in the Spring semester, based on
accomplishments through the previous semester.
- Based on a
combination of academic performance, work
experience, previous awards, and community
service (similar to criteria for Outstanding
Senior)
- Minimum GPA of
3.0 to be considered for award
- Open to all
meteorology majors
2. SoM
Director's Recognition for Outstanding Service
to the Department ($300 award)
NOMINATION FORMS
ARE AVAILABLE IN THE SoM OFFICE, SEC
1310
- Application
deadline for Spring 1999 is March 12, 1999
- Awards will be
given in the Spring semester, based on
accomplishments through the previous semester.
- Awarded to
students who have voluntarily given of their
time for such departmental duties as tours,
serving on committees (e.g. OUSCAMS), tutoring,
etc.
- Based on SoM
director, faculty, or staff recommendation SoM
Awards committee will review nominations and
make recommendation to the SoM Director
- SoM Director
will make the final decision on award
GRADUATE
AWARDS
Best Student
Manuscript/Publication
1.Douglas Lilly
Award for best Ph.D. manuscript/publication
2.Yoshi Sasaki
Award for best Masters manuscript/publication
MANUSCRIPTS MUST
BE SUBMITTED TO THE SoM OFFICE, SEC 1310, BY
MARCH 12, 1999 FOR
CONSIDERATION
FOR THE SPRING 1999 AWARD
- $500 each given
to the Ph.D. and Masters graduate students with
the best journal or proceedings
manuscript/publication (1 award at Ph.D. and 1
award at Masters)
- Manuscripts
should be at a stage that they are ready for
submission to a journal (i.e., no "first
drafts")
- Manuscripts/publications
can be submitted for consideration of award
within one year of graduation, providing the
manuscript is based on work done while a student
at OU
- Awards will be
given in the Spring semester
- Award
recipients to be determined by a review process,
overseen by the SoM Awards committee
Teaching
1.$500 given to
the top-rated Teaching Assistant in a given
academic year
NOMINATION FORMS
ARE AVAILABLE IN THE SoM OFFICE, SEC 1310.
TEACHING ASSISTANTS MAY
BE NOMINATED FOR
THIS AWARD BY A STUDENT OR FACULTY
MEMBER.
- Award based on
end of semester student evaluations and student
and/or faculty letters of recommendation
- Awards will be
given in the Spring semester, based on work from
the previous calendar year (spring/fall
semesters)
