UPE is the honor society for the computing sciences. It was formed in 1967 at Texas A&M University. The society's web presence is maintained at Purdue University. The society was officially recegnized by the ACM in 1967, and by the IEEE Computer Society in 1992.

The local chapter was formed by Leslie David Fife, the student petitioner, and Dr. Sudarshan K. Dhall, faculty advisor, under the direction of Rex L. Page, Director, School of Computer Science, University of Oklahoma.

Membership is by invitation to those who meet the societies requirements. The primary requirements are listed below. For more detailed requirements, we refer you to the Chapter Constitution and Bylaws, and the Society Constitution and Bylaws, available below.

Undergraduate

• Junior or Senior in Computer Science,
• 3.2 Overall and CS GPA,
• top 1/3 of all CS Juniors and Seniors.

Graduate

• 15 hours of graduate coursework,
• 3.5 GPA.

Faculty

• Associate or Full Professor.

Alumni, Adjunct Faculty, Honorary, Etc.
