UPE is the honor society for the computing sciences. It was formed in 1967 at Texas A&M University. The society's web presence is maintained at Purdue University. The society was officially recegnized by the ACM in 1967, and by the IEEE Computer Society in 1992.
The local chapter was formed by Leslie David Fife, the student petitioner, and Dr. Sudarshan K. Dhall, faculty advisor, under the direction of Rex L. Page, Director, School of Computer Science, University of Oklahoma.
